Gay Pride?
Ok gay people, you guys claim you want to just live a "normal" lifestyle. Well then, why do you feel the need to have "Gay Pride" festivals and dress with rainbows and bright colors and you feel the need to tell everyone you're gay?
Now I know, not all of you do that, but I know some of you do. I've seen it.
So if I had me a "Straight Pride" festival, would you be mad at us? Say that we are taking away the only thing that's yours?

1. It is pretty hypocritical of those who do it. Just like how some Mexicans have brown pride written on their back window, if I had white pride I would probably get my car vandalized.
2. well is there a way to have straight pride? thats the real question here.
3. straight pride.....yeah baby!
4. I thought the spring break festivities on television was your parade!
5. OK, so I'm not gay, but I do have lots of gay friends, and lived in the San Francisco area for 10 years, so I'm not exactly a dolt on the subject.
Gay Pride parades are akin to affirmative action. At one time (with AA), qualified minority applicants simply weren't always chosen when they should have been, and thus AA was created to even the playing field.
Gay Pride parades serve a similar purpose, but as gays (and all the sub groups that entails) currently don't enjoy the same rights and privedges as blacks, women, mexicans, etc, and so they have not yet reached a point where shouting their message is obsolete, as it is with AA.
Until Gays have the same rights as other so-called minority groups, you will continue to see such displays.
You have every right, of course, to have a Straight Pride festival if you like, but in our case, it's completely unecessary since we don't have any rights or pride being infringed upon on a daily basis.
6. Well considering how much abuse LGBT Folk have to endure just right here in Yahoo's Answers, that pretty much sums up why we still have them. If all things were equal, and the treatment of all groups were the same, that would be a different story.
If you want a Straight Pride Parade, have at it. We don't care either way. But it will never happen, and you know why? Because you would only be having them out of spite, and most Straight people will be ho-hum about them because they would be pointless.
Actually, I am surprise you don't have a Straight Pride Parades. God knows Straight people follow every other trend we create.
7. Are you kidding? EVERY day is "straight pride" day. Heterosexuals are allowed to publicly display their affection for one another, legally get married, etc, etc.
Gay pride is about saying, "Hi there! We're here, too! Though you shun and ignore us, we're still here and we're proud to be ourselves."
The rainbows and bright colors are a symbols of celebrating DIVERSITY in the human race.
8. I have no problem with a straight pride parade.
The reason we have gay pride festivals and such is because for thousands of years, we, as a group, have been prosecuted and put down, even killed for who we are. The parade is a symbol of pride and freedom, being able to stand up and say "I'm Gay," and not have someone rape, stab, or beat you because of it. We feel the need to have these celebrations because it has only been recently, (meaning 30 years or so), where we have been accepted, (mostly), into society and treated equally.
Does that help?
9. Gay people have gay prides because they were and have been discriminated because of their sexual orientation for many centuries.
Straight people dosent' have a straight pride because they were never discriminated for their sexual orientation.
And no, it's not going to bother me if you had yourself a straight pride festival.
10. Im a lesbian but dont scream out loud.. only when i feel the need .. when straigh ppl .. straight guyz keep hitting on me.. its disrespectful how i tell them im gay and they still wont back off! im hispanic and in LULAC.. i do march for my 'brown pride' i do.. if straight ppl want to have a festival go ahead.. dont they show straight pride everyday anyway?... 11. I thought Girls Gone Wild and Intern'l Dwarf Throwing was your straight pride festivities.... no?? My bad. See? Apparently we all stereotype.
12. I encourage you to have a straight pride festival! With lots of singing and weird costumes and music and bubble machines!! I'd go!!
13. I'm not actually gay (that I have realized yet), but your question is a good one, so I thought I'd throw in my two cents.
Doesn't it seem like everyone wants their own parade, to flaunt the things they want others to be more tolerant of?
I just had this conversation the other day, after seeing a three hundred pound black woman at a convenience store. She had four children with her, and was there buying a carton of cigarettes, while she yelled at her kids to shut up about the candy they wanted because, "they should know there isn't money for that".
Suppose I had said something about unemployment rates, or food stamps, or the gang violence in that particular part of town, or KFC. She would have been up in my face in 0.2 seconds flat.
Then consider that there's a Negro College Fund set up, and my kids can't benefit from it, just for being white. That's fine. But what if I established a Caucasion College Fund? I'd probably have Jesse Jackson calling me to ask about my intentions.
It doesn't matter what you question from the minorities, they will always find a way to turn it on you. And as long as society continues empathizing with all the cry babies who need more love and respect, our own voices become less and less heard.
So, tell the rainbow warriors that they can do whatever they want, but that they are not special. If they want a parade to show off their limp wrists, fine. We should have a parade to celebrate procreation and love, the way God intended.
14. i think the reason people have Gay Pride events is to counter all the attacks that we are constantly enduring from idiots who think being gay, lesbian or bisexual is a sin.
Gay Pride events are just a way to say "hey, im gay and nothing you can say will change that"
wearing rainbows is just another way of showing that too.
and no, i dont think that if people started having "straight pride" everyone will get upset. i can understand that a few people might, but for the majority no.
